Why Pacific Outdoor Living

Designed Right. Built Right. Coordinated From Start to Finish.

La Crescenta landscapes deserve more than generic improvement. They need a plan that respects the site, mature nature, biodiversity, and the practical realities of construction.

Drainage Planned Before Anything Is Poured

Crescenta Valley lots sit on the wash below the San Gabriels, and most of them slope hard from north to south. Before we design a patio here we look at where water enters the property, where it currently ponds, and where it can legally be discharged. That sequence is the difference between hardscape that lasts twenty years and hardscape that heaves after two wet winters.

Wholesale Material Advantages

We source through long-standing supplier relationships and pass our wholesale material discounts through to you instead of treating them as an upsell. Our Sun Valley showroom is a short drive down the 210, so you can put your hands on paver, stone, and coping samples before final selections are made.

One Coordinated Process

Grading, drainage, walls, hardscape, planting, and irrigation on a sloped La Crescenta lot all depend on each other. Keeping the whole sequence with our own in-house crews means the drain lines go in at the right depth the first time, before the base rock and the pavers go over the top of them.

What to Consider When Planning a La Crescenta Outdoor Space

Grade and Water Come First in the Crescenta Valley

La Crescenta sits on the alluvial fan that the San Gabriel canyons have been building for a very long time. Dig anywhere in the valley and you find cobble, and nearly every lot slopes from the mountains toward Foothill Boulevard. Both facts change how a yard gets built here: excavation is slower and rockier than it looks, and every hardscape surface has to be part of a deliberate drainage plan.

The valley’s history makes the point. The flood that came out of Pickens Canyon in 1934 is why the debris basins above these neighborhoods exist, and residents saw the same pattern again after the Station Fire. A La Crescenta yard is not just handling its own rainfall. It is handling what arrives from uphill.

The upside is that the homes here, mostly mid-century on generous sloping lots, take terracing beautifully. Once the grade is resolved with walls and proper drainage, you get level, connected outdoor rooms with a mountain backdrop that few Los Angeles neighborhoods can match.

Designing for La Crescenta

Built for Cobble Soil, Steep Grade, and Foothill Storms

The Crescenta Valley sits on an alluvial fan below the San Gabriels. Rocky ground, a persistent slope, and storm runoff from the canyons above set the terms for any outdoor project here.

Storm Water From Uphill

Your yard receives water from properties and slopes above it. We size drains and outlet locations for that reality, keep pipe solid and sloped where it matters, and set finish grades that carry water past the house rather than into it.

02

Cobble and Decomposed Granite

Excavation here hits rock. We plan trenching routes, footing depths, and planting pockets around it, and we amend and improve soil where planting beds need it rather than assuming the native profile will do the job.

03

Terracing the North-South Slope

Nearly every lot falls toward Foothill. Stepped retaining creates the flat pads for dining, lounging, lawn, or a pool, and the wall lines get drawn with the patio layout rather than after it.

Brush Line Planting

Properties along the northern edge back up to open slope. Clearance requirements shape the plant palette there, and we favor irrigated, low-growing, low-fuel species near the structure with spacing that keeps fuel from running continuously.

Questions About Planning a Project in La Crescenta

Does Pacific Outdoor Living serve La Crescenta?

Yes. La Crescenta and the wider Crescenta Valley are within our Greater Los Angeles service region. Use the address checker on this page to confirm coverage for your exact property.

Water pools against my house every winter. Is that fixable?

Almost always, and it should be fixed as part of the project rather than after it. The usual combination is regrading to move water away from the structure, area drains and catch basins at the low points, and solid pipe carrying it to an approved discharge. Doing it while the yard is already open costs a fraction of adding it later.

Does the rocky soil here make a project more expensive?

It can affect excavation time for pools, deep footings, and trenching, which is exactly why we look at it during the Site Analysis instead of discovering it mid-build. Knowing what is underground before construction starts is what keeps a schedule and a budget honest.

Can you build a level lawn or pool pad on a sloped lot?

Yes, with retaining. We shoot the existing grades, decide where the flat pads belong, and size the walls to produce them. On most La Crescenta lots that retaining work is a significant share of the budget, so we price it early.

What does a backyard remodel cost in La Crescenta?

It depends on how much grading, drainage, and retaining the site needs before the visible work begins. A consultation and Site Analysis turn that into real numbers for your property, and our design-build process is built to keep confirmed projects on schedule and on budget. Schedule a Consultation
