How we work

  1. An older freeform pool and spa before the remodel, with a worn deck, a stone barbecue counter and tarps on the patio Before

Assess how you cook and host

How often you cook, what you cook and how many people you feed decide the size, the appliances and whether the kitchen needs a roof.

  2. A 3D rendering of a remodeled pool and spa, with a covered pavilion beside a two-story house Design

    Design and appliance selection

Layout, grill, oven, refrigeration, storage and finishes, drawn with the pool, the dining and the lounge around them and shown in 3D for you and your HOA.

  3. An existing site plan marked up by hand with the proposed pool, pergola, fireplace and kitchen Utilities

    Utilities, HOA and permits

Gas, water, drain and electrical runs are planned, and the city permits and HOA approval secured, before any cabinet is set.

  4. An outdoor kitchen island mid-construction, with stucco and countertops going on and a crew member working in the background Installation

    Installation

Our crews build the base, the island and any pavilion, install and test the appliances and finish the counters. Pre-fab islands arrive mostly ready.

  5. An outdoor kitchen at dusk, stainless appliances lit along both dark cabinet runs Finished

    Integration and finishing

Paving, seating, shade, lighting and planting finish the outdoor room around the kitchen.

Key decisions

Things worth knowing before a first consultation.

  • Custom, pavilion or pre-fab

A custom island fits the space exactly, a pavilion adds a room, and a pre-fab island saves time and money in fixed sizes.

  • Where it sits

Close enough to the house to carry food out, facing the pool or the view, and placed so smoke drifts away from the seating and the neighbors.

  • HOA guidelines

Many Calabasas communities review structures, roof materials and colors. We design to the guidelines from the start and submit with the 3D model.

  • Gas, water and electrical

Gas and electrical runs and a sink drain are what trigger permits from the City of Calabasas. Planned early, the lines run under the paving instead of across it.

  • Fire-safe materials

Stone, stucco, concrete and steel do not burn, and a roof near the open space is built with ignition-resistant materials.

  • Shade and weather

A pergola filters the sun, a solid roof adds shelter, and fans and heaters stretch the season through hot afternoons and cool canyon evenings.

  • Integration with the yard

The kitchen anchors an outdoor room. The pool, dining, lounge, lighting and planting complete it.

Investment and timeline

No quote written off a photograph can account for what your property is like.

What shapes the investment

  • Custom, pavilion or pre-fabricated
  • Size, counter length and appliance count
  • Materials and finishes
  • Gas, water, drain and electrical runs
  • The roof, terrace and lighting around it

What shapes the schedule

  • Design and appliance selection
  • HOA review and City of Calabasas permits
  • Appliance and cabinet lead times
  • Installation and system testing
  • Surrounding hardscape and planting

Why entertainer's cabana was drawn together with the rest of the property

Decking, drainage, utilities, planting, shade and lighting all bear on where a feature goes and how it gets built. Settling them on one set of drawings is what keeps conduit out of the wrong trench and stops paving being cut to fit afterward.

  • Placement The kitchen run sits along the side wall, a few steps from the house and the dining table.
  • Cover A timber cabana with its own bar and screen anchors the far end of the pool.
  • Dining A long table under string lights sits between the kitchen and the pool.
  • Fire A gas fire table with cushioned benches carries the evening on after dinner.
  • Utilities Gas, water and electrical were drawn on the plan with the pool equipment, so the lines run under the paving.

What customers say

  • After redoing the backyard, Pacific Outdoor Living also handled the driveway, walkway, and outdoor kitchen, creating a home made for hosting. Each project coordinated seamlessly with the others, and the vision came together beautifully. We now have an outdoor space perfect for entertaining and family gatherings.

  • The pool, spa, and patio renovation turned out beautifully, and the custom waterslide became a favorite feature for the family. Our kids absolutely love it, and it's become the gathering spot for our entire neighborhood. The quality of the work and attention to creating a family-friendly space was exceptional.

Monty Richards Google review Pool, spa, patio and a custom waterslide
  • To show the professionalism of this company, over half a year after the project wrapped we had a concern that some water running off from a gutter drain on our house had washed away some of the front yard side path. Within days, Jorge had a team out here to install a pipe at the end of the gutter drain to redirect water away from it, and filled the path back in. They did this so fast, we never even knew they were here. They didn't have to do that, especially considered the time between the project ending and the issue coming up, but they did.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit for an outdoor kitchen in Calabasas?

Usually, if the kitchen has gas, electrical or plumbing. The gas line, new circuits and a sink drain are what typically trigger permits from the City of Calabasas, and a pavilion or covered structure needs its own. We handle them in house.

Will our HOA need to approve it?

In many Calabasas communities, yes, especially for a pavilion or anything visible from the street or the neighbors. We design to your association's guidelines and submit with the 3D model, so the approval runs alongside the city permit.

Is an outdoor kitchen safe near open space?

Built the right way, yes. The island and counters are in materials that do not burn, any roof is built with ignition-resistant materials, the gas line gets an accessible shutoff, and the planting nearby is low, spaced and irrigated.

What appliances should we include?

Start with how you cook. A grill and enough prep space are essential; refrigeration, a sink, side burners, a pizza oven and a warming drawer are the most popular additions. We size the counter to the appliances you will actually use.

Should the kitchen be covered?

If you will cook at midday or use it in the evenings, usually yes. A pergola filters the sun; a solid roof adds rain and heat protection and makes room for fans, heaters, a TV and lighting. We plan it with the permits and the HOA.

What does an outdoor kitchen cost in Calabasas?

It depends on size, counter length, appliances, materials, how far the gas, water and electrical have to run, and whether it has a roof. A pre-fab island and a full kitchen pavilion sit at very different ends of the range. Your designer prices it from a measured plan.

Can you build the kitchen as part of a larger remodel?

Yes, and it is often the best value. Running the gas, water and electrical while the pool and paving are going in costs less than opening finished work later, and the kitchen gets placed as part of the whole yard.

Do you build outdoor kitchens across Calabasas?

Yes, in the gated communities and on the hillside lots alike, and in the neighboring Conejo Valley and west San Fernando Valley communities. Use the address checker on our Calabasas page to confirm coverage for your property.
