Estate Residential Resort
A big family backyard planned as a resort in miniature: rectangular pool, stone waterfall wall, covered patio, lawn and mature shade.
How this project came together
The challenge
An L-shaped lot, which is never the easy version. The house, an open lawn, the driveway and mature trees were all on it, with utilities run right across. On a shape like that, zoning the yard is the first problem you solve, not the last.
The design decision
Julian and the homeowners mapped the pool, spa, outdoor kitchen and seating together, working through placement, dimensions and how you'd move between them. We settled the site constraints at sketch stage, while changing your mind still costs nothing.
The build
Dimensions and placement were finalized alongside materials, finishes and lighting. The jar fountain was already on the property, so we moved it somewhere you'd actually see it and filled in around it with hydrangeas, a Eugenia hedge and the rest of the planting.
From survey to buildable plan
Every project is measured, drawn, and approved before a shovel goes in the ground. These are the actual drawings for this property.

100%Base Plan
The base plan outlined the property’s layout, highlighting the home’s footprint, open lawn, driveway, and mature trees. It also mapped out key utilities and the unique L-shaped lot configuration of the lot. This detailed groundwork helped the design team plan dedicated zones for the pool, outdoor kitchen, and entertainment spaces, setting the stage for a smooth transformation.

100%Design Proposals
Building off the base plan, Julian and the homeowners collaborated to map out major features like the pool, spa, outdoor kitchen, and seating areas, refining their placement, dimensions, and flow. Early collaboration helped address site challenges, fine-tune the layout, and set a strong foundation before moving into the final design phase.

100%Conceptual Plan
The dimensions and placement of the pool, spa, and other major features were finalized, along with detailed selections for materials, finishes, and outdoor lighting. The design also included relocating the homeowner’s existing jar fountain to a more prominent spot and enhancing the landscape with added hydrangeas, a Eugenia hedge, and other carefully chosen plantings to complete the modern resort-style retreat.
The space, rendered in 3D
Homeowners approve a photorealistic model of their own property before construction starts, so what gets built is what they signed off on.
