Patio Paradise
A tired pool yard turned into a full entertaining floor: covered dining patio, an outdoor kitchen with concrete counters, and a privacy hedge wrapped around the loungers.
How this project came together
The challenge
There was already a pool and spa at the rear with the equipment beside it, plus tile walkways, planters and lawn, and a driveway curving from the front gate to the garage. Mature trees around the edges. We recorded the water heater, gas meter and electrical panel along with spot elevations across the lot before drawing anything.
The design decision
The sketch plan added a fountain, a built-in BBQ island, an outdoor bathroom and changing room, and two pergolas for shade, with a custom fountain drawn for the front yard. It also called out which mature plantings to keep and which to pull, which is a conversation worth having on paper rather than on the morning the crew shows up.
The build
The finished job centers on the pool, with a BBQ island and a pergola over it. Sand-finish concrete pavers, beach pebble inlays and tile patios give the hardscape its texture. Out front, a formal fountain sits in gravel with accent boulders and layered beds. The planting list is deliberately low-maintenance: blue glow agave, Mexican snowball, rosemary and lavender.

100%Base Plan
This base plan shows an existing property with a central residence, attached garage, and surrounding lawn and tile areas. A pool and spa are located at the rear of the lot, with adjacent pool equipment. The site includes multiple tile walkways, planter areas, and existing utilities such as a water heater, gas meter, and electrical panel. The driveway curves from the front gate to the garage, with mature trees and vegetation bordering the property. Spot elevations and utility placements are marked throughout to inform future landscape planning.

The sketch plan outlines a range of proposed improvements, including the addition of a fountain, built-in BBQ island, and an outdoor bathroom/changing room. Two pergolas are planned to provide shaded seating areas. The design also includes a custom fountain feature for the front yard and thoughtful considerations for preserving or replacing existing mature plantings throughout the property.
