How we work

  1. An older oval pool with brick coping and deck before a remodel, palm trees and a wood lattice fence around the yard Before

Assess how you cook and host

How often you cook, what you cook and how many people you feed decide the size, the appliances and whether the kitchen needs a roof.

  2. Designer and clients reviewing 3D property renderings together at a design consultation meeting Design

    Design and appliance selection

Layout, grill, burners, refrigeration, storage and finishes, drawn with the pool, the dining and the privacy around them and shown in 3D.

  3. The designer's hand-marked-up base plan, working out the new pool, raised spa, wet bar and pergola dimensions Utilities

    Utilities and permits

Gas, water, drain and electrical runs are planned, and the City of Beverly Hills permits pulled, before any cabinet is set.

  4. An outdoor kitchen island mid-construction, with stucco and countertops going on and a crew member working in the background Installation

    Installation

Our crews build the base and the island, install and test the appliances and finish the counters. Pre-fab islands arrive mostly ready.

  5. A built-in grill and wicker dining set catching the evening sun Finished

    Integration and finishing

Paving, seating, shade, lighting and planting finish the outdoor room around the kitchen.

Key decisions

Things worth knowing before a first consultation.

  • Custom, pavilion or pre-fab

A custom island fits the space exactly, a covered pavilion adds a room, and a pre-fab island saves time and money in fixed sizes.

  • Where it sits

Close enough to the house to carry food out, far enough from the neighbors' windows that smoke and noise stay in your yard, and facing the pool or the guests rather than a wall.

  • Gas, water and electrical

Gas and electrical runs and a sink drain are what trigger permits, and in Beverly Hills those go through the city. Planned early, the lines run under the paving instead of across it.

  • Shade and weather

A pergola filters the sun, a solid roof adds shelter, and fans and heaters stretch the season. Beverly Hills evenings cool off quickly, so the cover matters as much after sunset as at midday.

  • Materials

Stainless and stone in the island, counters that will not stain or etch in the sun, and finishes that match the house rather than a catalog.

  • Privacy and neighbors

Second-story windows look into most yards in the flats, so screening, the direction of the lighting and where the smoke drifts all get planned.

  • Integration with the yard

The kitchen anchors an outdoor room. The pool, dining, lounge, lighting and planting complete it.

Investment and timeline

No quote written off a photograph can account for what your property is like.

What shapes the investment

  • Custom, pavilion or pre-fabricated
  • Size, counter length and appliance count
  • Materials and finishes
  • Gas, water, drain and electrical runs
  • The shade structure, paving and lighting around it

What shapes the schedule

  • Design and appliance selection
  • City of Beverly Hills permits and utility coordination
  • Appliance and cabinet lead times
  • Installation and system testing
  • Surrounding hardscape, and the work hours the city allows

Why arcing fountain pool was drawn together with the rest of the property

Decking, drainage, utilities, planting, shade and lighting all bear on where a feature goes and how it gets built. Settling them on one set of drawings is what keeps conduit out of the wrong trench and stops paving being cut to fit afterward.

  • Placement The kitchen pavilion sits at the end of the pool, so the cook faces the water and the guests.
  • Cover A solid roof with ceiling fans and a heater, so the kitchen and dining work at midday and on cool evenings.
  • Counter and storage A built-in grill, a sink and stainless doors and drawers along the back wall.
  • Dining and lounge A dining table and a lounge group share the pavilion floor, one step from the pool deck.
  • Privacy Dark slatted fence panels run behind the pavilion and along the pool, screening the yard from the neighbors.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit for an outdoor kitchen in Beverly Hills?

Usually, if the kitchen has gas, electrical or plumbing. The gas line, new circuits and a sink drain are what typically trigger permits, and a covered structure needs its own. Beverly Hills issues its own permits, and we handle them in house.

Can an outdoor kitchen go on our existing patio?

A pre-fab island can sit on any sound, level patio. A custom kitchen needs a proper concrete base and a route for the gas, water and electrical, which often means opening the paving where the lines run. We check what is under the patio during the site analysis.

What appliances should we include?

Start with how you cook. A grill and enough prep space are essential; refrigeration, a sink, side burners, a pizza oven and a warming drawer are the most popular additions. We size the counter to the appliances you will actually use.

Should the kitchen be covered?

If you will cook at midday or use it in the evenings, usually yes. A pergola filters the sun; a solid roof adds rain and heat protection and makes room for fans, heaters and lighting. A covered structure has setbacks and height limits to meet, so we plan it with the permits.

How do you keep smoke and noise from bothering the neighbors?

Placement first: the grill goes where the smoke clears away from the neighbors' windows, with any roof or hood venting well clear of them. Lighting is aimed down, and screening planting and slatted fences soften both the sound and the sightlines.

What does an outdoor kitchen cost in Beverly Hills?

It depends on size, counter length, appliances, materials, how far the gas, water and electrical have to run, and whether it is covered. A pre-fab island and a covered kitchen pavilion sit at very different ends of the range. Your designer prices it from a measured plan, so the figure reflects your yard rather than an average.

Can you build the kitchen as part of a larger remodel?

Yes, and it is often the best value. Running the gas, water and electrical while the pool and paving are going in costs less than opening finished work later, and the kitchen gets placed as part of the whole yard.

Do you build outdoor kitchens across Beverly Hills?

Yes, from the flats to Trousdale Estates and the hillside lots above Sunset, and in the neighboring Westside communities. Use the address checker on our Beverly Hills page to confirm coverage for your exact property.
