Complete Backyard Spa Serenity
A tiered backyard quieted down into a spa-first retreat, with a linear fire feature, turf-to-paver terracing and a clear look out across the valley.
How this project came together
The challenge
Concrete tiers and lawn already stepped down behind the house, and the property line ran right along the hillside edge. Those two things decided everything that followed: the grade changes across the site, and that edge.
The design decision
The first sketches worked to the elevation change and put in an infinity-style water feature, modern hardscape and clearly defined living areas. Walking the layout with the homeowners is what kept it open. A tiered yard like this crowds up fast if you fill every terrace.
The build
The infinity-style spa, fire pit, artificial lawn and concrete pavers went in first, then the planting, materials and lighting. We sampled the cable railing before ordering it so everyone could judge the finish against that hillside edge in daylight, where it was going to live.
From survey to buildable plan
Every project is measured, drawn, and approved before a shovel goes in the ground. These are the actual drawings for this property.

100%Base Plan
The base plan outlined the home’s layout along with the existing concrete tiers, lawn areas, and surrounding property lines. It also highlighted key site challenges, including grade changes and hillside slopes. This gave the design team the critical details needed to redesign the space into a more open and modern outdoor environment.

100%Design Proposals
During the design consultation, the initial sketches captured a bold new vision for the yard, adjusting for the elevation changes and hillside edge. Concepts included an infinity-style water feature, modern hardscaping, and outdoor living areas. Early collaboration with the client helped refine the layout while keeping the aesthetic clean, open, and contemporary.

100%Conceptual Plan
The conceptual plan finalized the placement of key features, including the infinity-style spa, firepit, artificial lawn area, and concrete pavers. Selected plantings, hardscape materials, and lighting elements were added to complete the modern look. The plan also included samples for features like cable railing to help visualize the final finishes and details.
The space, rendered in 3D
Homeowners approve a photorealistic model of their own property before construction starts, so what gets built is what they signed off on.
